I went to their game vs. NYG later that season too. About 42k were there. Even then I still never believed they'd leave. Just like I never believed they'd ever come back... I thought the lower attendance was because Georgia was squawking on TV about St. Louis.
They were actually competitive through 9 games that year (4-5) before two close losses to the Raiders and 49ers and then the bottom dropping out (4-12).
I also recall going to an offseason fans' event at Anaheim Stadium before the 1993 season that had maybe 1,500 people there. It was a meet-and-greet with players and designed to showcase all the available season tickets. So again, they've come a long way in building their brand...
