Brandon wanted a certain type of safety and they saw that in Fuller, but yes Holmes def pushed for him,
Holmes also pushed hard for Goff. Not as good in the end, but still shows he had influence, for better or worse
If you read up on Fuller, he's a Holmes find. No defensive coordinator is going to be as deep into examining all the players in college football as a scout. Scouts scout 12 months a year, coaches scout 1 month a year.
It is the case with the Rams that the personnel people work hard at finding what kinds of players coaches want. They then bring their findings to coaches. From then on it's a collaborative process.
Holmes may have brought Fuller to Staley's attention, but even then, Snead and the secondary coaches and McVay would all have to buy in when they stacked the board.
...
Yeah. A perfect example is Gerald Everett. He fit the profile for exactly what McVay was looking for but Snead says he found him and liked him in 2016 which is a year before McVay was hired.
