I get the feeling that the Niners were fairly certain that the Jets would keep Darnold and not draft a QB at 2.
I mean, to give up that many picks to get a shot at the 3rd QB selected??? So much is simply out of their hands. Plus unless the Niners feel Mac Jones or Trey Lance are better than Lawrence and Wilson, or that Wilson, Lance and Jones are basically a "pick one" and they'll all be really good..... it breaks my head to think what they did.
I've even wondered if QB isn't their target. Could it possibly be that Pitts is their target? Would a freak TE/WR hybrid be worth the #3 pick in the draft, based on the enormous amount of draft capital they gave up? I do think that if the Niners did that, you'd a pair of TEs that are nearly unstoppable. But it is highly unlikely they would do that.
So..... I just think that the Niners may have screwed the pooch unless they get very very lucky. And, it does happen.

I thought about the Patriot model at TE and the Niners trying to remake the magic with Kittle and Pitts.
They might pull that off but will Pitts be all world TE in his rookie year? That's a lot to bank on.
When you think about the draft capitol they gave up, if this is the plan, it makes the hand we threw down for Stafford seem like a full house.
