That's not true. I played basketball back in the day. I built my legs up with weight lifting. I would do calf lifts at about 350 pounds on the Universal. I would do them until the pain was unbearable. My vertical leap increased by about 6 inches. I never met another basketball player that I couldn't blow away from one end of the court to the other or to a loose ball. Looking back, I wish that I had run a timed 40. It must have been respectable. I am certain that football players could dramatically improve their 40 times by doing the same thing. The calf muscles are the key to rapid acceleration, which is what matters in the 40. I also did other types of weight lifting with my legs. I think this was a factor in my never having a serious leg injury.
