the defense better take a step up, if they want any shot at anything.
With Aaron Donald nursing his ribs, the rest of them took a giant dump.
That won't get it no matter who the QB is, Brockers.
So we're measuring the defense now on what they did in one game when they were missing arguably the best player in the league?
It would be awesome if they stepped up from being the #1 defense! That would mean all time great like dominance.
But it's more realistic and more necessary for the 24th ranked offense to step up if they want to win.
As for missing Donald, I expect the team to go as far without him as it would if they were missing Stafford. Namely, not very far.
Yet there are 9 other top 10 defenses that don't have Donald.
Just to stress how miserable they were that day I will repeat a detail. Only 3 times since the merger has any team in playoff game scored on its 1st 5 possession. Green Bay in January was one of the 3.
You expect a drop-off without Donald. You don't expect a deep dive into the Marianas Trench.
That game exposed some things that need addressing. I don't know to what extent it's personnel or to what extent it's the scheme etc. But, Morris has to look at this and I am sure he will.
To me that's just being realistic.
