Granted, the timing is strange.
But what is the simplest explanation for offloading a respected OL coach so late?
I think it came down to irreconcilable differences between Kromer and McVay as to type of blocking schemes/players needed to execute McVay’s complete playbook under Stafford. That would explain both the timing and the urgency perfectly.
It passes the Occam’s Razor test the best, too.

I think many people will have different versions of "the simplest explanation."
And they will all think their version passes the O-Razer test.
The truth? We have no idea. We're all speculating.

Of course. We’re all speculating. Goes without saying, since that’s what posters do 95% of the time. Lol.
My own speculation is that yes McV is changing his ideas of what he wants in terms of coaching style and philosophy and system.
But if that's what happened with Kromer, I have no idea why it took a month to come to that realization.
....
Good question.
Perhaps it occurred to McVay that a different philosophy and maybe different personnel were necessary to maximize Stafford’s immense talents?
I’ll put it allegorically. If the HC upgrades from a Corvette (Goff) to a Ferrari (Stafford) would it make sense to skimp on the tires (OL)?
Is it possible they're BOTH saying (1) Stafford is a very talented veteran qb, and (2) but he's dependent on us approaching the entire OL issue a certain way.
Yeah that's possible.
There's a joke going around twitter about that. [
