When listening to JR, I felt the father-son dynamic thing was more Kromer being the "father figure" when McVay first started coaching and putting his staff together. McVay then had the role as a "son" or younger coach being helped along by veteran coaches until he was ready to become a head coach. I think that's what we are seeing now. McVay is evolving and becoming a "head coach" and putting his own mark on this team with coaches he feels fit his system better.

A coach can't evolve if he has older coaches on his staff? I NEVER said that. You assume I did. I dunno, that sounds pretty insecure to me. Not to me if you are just trying to improve as a coach. You learn more about yourself as time goes by and what good coach doesn't self evaluate himself and his staff and make changes that fit with their philosophy?

And if you want to replace a coach cause you don't think he fits your system, why wait a month? Good question and you don't know that answer either. He didn't know a month ago that Kromer didn't fit his system? After 4 years? Again, you don't know what happened. a significant thing with this--the timing is very strange. I agree with this statement. How often do you hear of head coaches moving on from a top assistant or coordinator a month after hiring season? Just because it's rare, doesn't mean there isn't any merit for it to take place.

...

I think if you are a sane, non-insecure coach you can improve even with older coordinators and position coaches on your staff.

I think McVay has done so well that there's this tendency to see everything he does in the absolutely most positive light possible. Well, I thought Vermeil was the best coach the Rams have had since I started following them, and he had flaws. So did Robinson and Martz. So does McVay.

But I don't think his flaws include being so insecure he cannot handle having older, very experienced coaches around him. (And I don't see any other way of spinning that as being even a bit convincing.)

I just think whatever the reason may be for Kromer being cut loose a month too late (strange timing) that we don;t know why, or what the issues are. And I believe the "let sonny boy grow without daddy" routine is about as plausible as the old "oh Todd doesn't have an arthritic knee I just forgot he was on the team" explanations were. So, neither "explanation" is plausible.
