... the Rams top 3 WRs are all under contract through 2023 (as are their top 2 TEs for that matter). It's not like they need to look ahead and draft a WR with an eye on 2022. What they need is a pure role player with deep speed.
Do they, 93? Or has it been said so often that it’s become groupthink?
Let’s see...
Stafford at QB with much better ability to read D’s coupled with gifted deep ball accuracy.
A WR corps of Woods, Kupp, and Jefferson.
And an apparent focus on improving our OL play to take advantage of both of the above.
Akers likely to go wild with better OL blocking and a lethal play action problem for opposing D’s.
Hmmmmm...
I’m starting to wonder if Rams should devote too many resources to this vertical WR ‘need’, after all.
Well, if we're going to trust the coach on other things, that should apply to this too right?
I'm sure the change to a QB who excels in deep shots, an ascending Akers, and a better OL will all greatly contribute to a better deep game with explosive plays.
But McVay has noted several times interviews after the Stafford trade that they lacked the vertical threat once Cooks was traded. He wouldn't say that if Woods, Kupp, and Jefferson were enough. And based on what we know of them, none of them are true vertical threats.
So with all respect my friend, when the coach highlights a personnell need, I don't feel we can call it group think.
