What McVay has also alluded a few times was that there were specific solutions to what the defenses did but those solutions were not executed by the QB.

Notice that after the trade McV dropped that "blame the qb" thing and started talking about his own communication issues.

Notice also that JG reacted to finding out criticisms of his play through McV press conferences instead of face-to-face behind doors communication.

I believe McV when he directly says he had communication issues. I am assuming he learned from it too.

...

While McVay was staying clear of blaming Goff while focusing on what he did well (which I recognized by stating the hundreds of plays he executed well) I believe that McVay's communication issues were related to Goff's inability at times to process what Sean calls "the intent" of the play. The first time I noticed the change in McVay's messaging was after the Dolphins game as he stated that they didn't do anything unexpected and that the offense had answers in place that were not executed. McVay put that together, not me.

So JG was capable of playing well in 2017 and 2018, held up decently in 2019 considering he played behind one poor OL followed by a somewhat better but inexperienced one....but in 2020 he forgot how to process "the intent" of plays? Then played well in the playoffs. And the director of scouting who was here and is now the GM in Detroit took Goff over Carolina's #8 pick in 2021, in spite of being here and knowing that suddenly Goff no longer knew how to process the "intent" of plays?

And after the Miami game Goff played well in several games, and they could have won the Miami game if McVay had noticed that empty sets were not working but running the ball against that D was.

No I don't buy the "it was all on Goff" story. Didn't during the season and not now. All sorts of things were going on, but one of them also was that McV was talking to the press about qb problems, the qb was saying he was surprised the coach had issues, and then after the trade McVay was saying he did not communicate.

This story does not add up to any nice simple tie it up with a ribbon conclusions.

There was clearly a disconnect and if you want to put that entirely on the qb, cool. I don't think it works. And I know when I say that it attracts a crowd of "correctors." But then saying in 2000 that there was something wrong with Zygmunt did too.

And it's all moot anyway. Talking about Goff is just being an historian and engaging in academic debate. The qb is Stafford and Stafford is an experienced player with a lot of intriguing skills. The only actual real continuing issue is the "I MUST jump in if there is a hint of McVay criticism" stuff that messes the board up. Those remarks don't apply to you. You and I were just having a conversation based on respectful disagreement.
