I would argue that McVay very likely did what I complained of (square peg wrong hole).
That was Goff's max if McV is looking at the chalkboard and not building around the player.
Either way I am not one of those who has to justify the trade by downplaying Goff or claiming he could not rebound (Stafford rebounded after a down 5th year). To me the trade is fine because Stafford is good, plus of course he's a vet. He brings things only a talented vet can bring.
But as an historian, no I don't buy a lot of the takes on Goff, fwiw.
