Goff has not shown that he can handle the pressure and make the throws..
Yes he did. You make several interesting points and it's an honest analysis but I am putting pressure (so to speak) on this one point.
It is not true that JG universally caved under pressure. In fact there are several games in the last 3 years where the Rams won and the qb came through under pressure, not the least of which was the NFC Championship game in 2018. Since PFR started keeping pressure stats, it's easier to follow this. For example in 2020 Arizona brought 16 pressures--the 4th most in the last 3 years--and the Rams offense ate them up.
The games where that did not work, it was usually the case that the opposing DL was capable of attacking and dominating the Rams OL. Stafford himself isn't always good under those conditions. In 5 games where he faced 10 or more pressures in 2020, Stafford came through in 2 of them.
...
yeah, another false narrative is that we lost games because of Goff but never won because of him.....you can't have it both ways.
There was a more than one or two losses this year that the defense fell short at crucial moments (Niners, Jets, Hags and the obvious one the Packers) that all contributed to losses.
Football is the ultimate team game....when the
team played well, we won....when the
team played poorly we sometimes lost.
Goff, didn't exactly fall of the proverbial cliff either that some make it out to be like he went full Wentz and was a disaster in every game....He had 3-4 bad games and played pretty damn good in about 10 games.
He was by far the best Rams QB since Warner and that was a lifetime ago....I will always respect and appreciate that about the kid, but look forward to seeing what a seasoned vet like Stafford can do for this team moving forward
