Carberry worked with Callahan, and Callahan was McVay's first choice for the OL in 2017, but for reasons I don't remember, Callahan couldn't do it so Kromer was the fall back.
I am not all that sure about this "knew McVay in Washington" model of hiring, but...if it works it works. So let's see if it works.
I can't remember the last newbie OL coach the Rams hired. From 2020 back to 1997 it has been veterans: Kromer, Boudreau, Loney, Hanifan.
I always think of great OL coaches as veterans. But then they had a great newbie OL coach in 1983, Hudson Houck. One of the great OL coaches in his time.
