The day after we beat Dallas (As if I wasn't stoked enough) my bud on the Cul De Sac said that his Aunt did not want to go or could not make the Tampa game. My friend and about 8 or 9 of his relatives ALL had season tickets to the Bucs. Tuesday through Friday, I was USELESS in school. SCREW SCHOOL!! I was going to my first Rams game in person and it was for the NFC Title!!!!!!! WELL.......Saturday, just about 28 hours from kick off...my Bud tells me that his Aunt was going to the game. UUUUUUUUUUUUGH!!!!!!!!!!
It would be the game in Tampa, in 1984, that I would finally see my fellas in person. My Dad (RIP) surprised the hell outta me with tickets! What a day that was!! And what a game it'd be! Rams won 34 to 33, Dickerson had a MONSTER game (There's 2-3 shots from that game that always make E.D. highlight reels) Irvin saved the day with a late pick.
30 years later, 2014,almost to the day, I would take MY Son to see HIS team (Ravens) for the first time in Tampa. We even ate lunch at the SAME Burger King, on MLK Blvd, just blocks from the stadium (Used to be Buffalo Ave) It was just over a year after my Dad passed. As we sat in Burger King, I looked at my Son and felt the SAME energy I had 30 years prior and thought of my Dad. Made me smile AND cut onions just a tad. And to top the day, the Ravens smoked Tampa, Flacco was ON FIRE!
