Sorry, I don't mean to be dismissive. And I'm certainly not saying (a) draft an Edge rusher at 57 no matter what or (b) they're so good at ILB they couldn't upgrade. At all.
But what I am saying is what makes defenses great in 2020-2021 is absolutely rushing the passer and outside coverage. If you are weak there you are weak everywhere regardless of what sort of Tasmanian Devil you might have at ILB.
The cupboard is not empty at Edge with Lewis, Hollins and Obo. But it is far, far from enough. 15 of their 21 sacks a year ago off the edge came from Floyd (and yes, I assume there's zero chance they keep him) and Ebukam. The three guys they have are not going to give them 21 (or even 15) sacks.
I think they need a stopgap veteran (Kerrigan?) AND a draft pick in the top 3 rounds at edge.
In the end, when they get to #57 if there is an ILB there that is a consensus top 45 player, etc. they should absolutely think about taking him. And taking an ILB
somewhere in the Draft would make sense because Young, Howard and Kiser will all be UFA in 2022. I just still say it's far from a
2021 priority.
