At this time of the year we as fans romanticize high draft picks. Let’s be honest there is sticker shock dealing two number ones and a third plus your QB. If we look at just the players I think most people believe Stafford is a superior QB and by the looks of it an upgrade in the leadership Dept. Now to the picks, the Rams have used high picks to acquire vets. Some have worked out extremely well some have been rentals or traded off. I’m not trying to diminish the value of 1st rounders but the Rams haven’t had one since 2016, and have had multiple playoff appearances and one Super Bowl, whereas the Lions have had several first rounders including many top 10 picks and yet always seem to be looking at the playoffs from the outside. If Stafford is a top 10 QB and delivers a playoff berth and possibly a deep playoff- SB run all of this in most fan’s minds will be worth it. Obviously if it doesn’t pan out fans will lament the lost of the future 1st rounders. I think it’s worth the risk. It wasn’t too many days ago this board was chanting not to waste prime years of AD. Those comments IMO were pointed at the ineptitude of the QB play and holes on the OL. Maybe in the draft or FA the OL will be addressed. For every Aaron Donald and Orlando Pace there unfortunately are way too many Tavon Austin’s and Greg Robinsons in the first round.
