Why did McVay make ex-ST coach the asst HC?

Why was the guy that absolutely failed as ST coach on the staff asst Head coach? I only ask because I was hoping McVay would give that honor to Aubrey, plus a little bump in pay so we could possibly keep him. Now I fear he might get plucked. No shame in losing out to our last 2 DC's but losing out on asst HC to our former ST coach?
