Oh hey he played with a hurt thumb. Ok. Keep in mind even he didn't want to use that as an excuse so honor him there. The guy played like crap. Both QBs did and we're now in a place where we need Akers to allow our QBs to run this offense well enough to be in this game.
Whenever players say they don't want to use something as an "excuse" it's always both honorable and just plain beside the point.
The coach said he lacked some functionality and that it showed. McVay was just right about that. The injury had an effect on playcalling too.
I don't personally agree with the harsh critiques. He made plays, we saw them, and because he did they won. It wasn't pretty and it wasn't epic and anyone who wants to nitpick it can, but yeah I give him credit for toughing it out and making enough plays to win. He could not have done it without the defense and the running game, but, they could not have done it without him too. He did enough to help them win it.
The fact that players are SUPPOSED to say something like an injury isn't an excuse speaks to their honor but has nothing to do with what WE say when we're objectively analyzing.
