But did Wolford have any choice on that play when he got injured? I only saw the play during the game.. then the replay or two they showed but those were focused on the hit itself and not the action that led up to it.
Seemed to me, (a replay of the ENTIRE play might make me see it differently), that he had no real 'slide' opportunity.
Fair question but I don't think it matters. McVay tried to blame himself there too for calling the QB run (it was a run play for the QB with a little trap action and he didn't follow the blocking either btw) but what is important here is you have a backup QB who is getting the opportunity of a lifetime and what does he do?
1. Takes at least 5 maybe more vicious head shots vs Arizona.
2. Runs right back into the breach vs Seattle and gets knocked out.
I guarantee you two things here. First that he was told to slide by the staff and I know that because it's that obvious and secondly that Seattle saw the head shots and told their guys if you get a chance to tattoo this dude take it. Because Sneaky Pete and yes this is conjecture and I have no proof and all that but I'm certain of it.
The problem is Wolford was dumb enough to SQUANDER the epic opportunity he was handed. Now... Will he get another opportunity here vs Green Bay? I hope so because I think he can move our offense and we need that. But he is almost out of shots man.
