part of the reason the draft is such a crap shoot, is that its not really about college production, its about if their skill set translates to the next level.
Case in point: Colt McCoy was a winner in college, but he didn't have the physical traits that would allow him to be as successful in the NFL.
So Im looking more at translatable skills than simple college production. Now, less production, or less snaps means it gets to be more of a projection.
That said, I go safer 1st round and get gutsier as the draft goes (in my mind) and with Staley a LBers coach and a heck of an all around defensive coach. So I feel confident that if the Rams took this kid, he will reach his super high ceiling.
Which brings me to another thing about potential vs production. You ever wonder why Alabama players seem to flame out or never reach what seems like superstar potential? Its because the prevailing thought is that Saban already has maxed out their potential. Some go on to be monster allstars like Julio Jones, Derrick Henry. But there are a ton that do nothing.Dee Milliner, Dre Kirkpatrick, Trent Richardson to name a few.
