Best case is that Wolford comes in and provides what Goff was not, steady if unspectacular play without major unforced errors. Good enough to score 16-21 points per game and leave the rest to our talented defense. Gets the balls to our playmakers and lets them do the rest.
There are a lot of talented QBs out there that just never got the opportunity to prove it. He makes the most of this opportunity, becomes an average NFL QB with some big-play ability, and either starts 2021 as our starter or allows us to play Goff with a quick hook if he keeps regressing.
And by doing so at a very low price point, he allows us to ride out the rest of Goff's high cap-hit years until we can upgrade.
Hell, look at Gardner Minshew's first couple of games, and he was a rookie with a lot less experience. It can happen.
