There is some knee-jerk reaction in all of us. We're human. And it WAS the 49ers. We all want those games a little bit more than most others... and Goff has had 2 of his 3 worst games (and I would say his only 3 bad games) of the year now vs. SF. And yesterday was arguably his worst of the year and one of his 3-4 worst under McVay.
But you're right. He very well might come back and play very well vs. ARZ. And then we'll see how he handles a much less talented but clearly still well-coached team in New England. But will he have another clunker in the final 5 games? Likely...
But as pissed as I was/am about yesterday it also doesn't negate the very good games he's had otherwise. He has 7 games this year with a QB rating of 99 or better and the other is Dallas where his QB rating was 79.4 but I would say he played well overall in that opener.
As I said in another thread he is better this year than he was in 2019. But not as good as 2017 and 2018. In those seasons he really had 6 poor games in 31 starts. In 2019 and 2020 he's now had 8 bad games in 27.
He can still lead this team to the playoffs and maybe the division title. One game at a time. Starting this Sunday @ARZ. And if he plays well I won't dismiss it at all. And I'll hope it continues.
