years ago, year after the SB win Ricky Proehl started a charity golf game at a local resort outside Greensboro. He brought along a bunch of players and 1 coach....Jim Hanifan. We met all the players and decided to have a cold one in the bar, there sitting alone drinking a soda was Coach Hanifan.
My buddy, Mary and I went up to him took seats at the bar. We started poking him with questions football related, Mary sat there listening. Then Mary spoke up with her Irish accent, Coach looked past me and at her. That was the end of the afternoon, we all sat there, I changed seats with Mary and Coach and Mary took off into Irish World...They went on and on, we left them there, came back and they were laughing and all that goes with that.....He was a teetotaler, so his laughter was not due to the drink.....
Great guy, a real guy, a genuine guy...I am sure everyone who crossed his path was better for it.
