because as noted in the post below, the Rams STs have been in decline for a few years.
So why blame Snead? Because draft picks and depth vets are the cornerstones of STs (at least the coverage units) well, Snead gives up draft picks like they grow on trees and that forces lower draft picks into starting spots which further weakens your STs.
The reason the Rams had Kupp as a PR? Because who else is gonna do it. The Rams plan of paying lots of players big money means less depth or meaningful depth. Its why the Rams are so inactive in FA.
So fewer draft picks and lack of depth has slowly eroded the Rams STs and this is the result. Including not having the cash to pay GZ.
Obviously. I'm not advocating firing Snead, but at the same time, this is not all Bonamego's fault. And I guarantee you he didn't have final say on which kickers the Rams keep or cut. He has say, but he doesn't sign and cut.
I have to respectfully disagree on some of this, Dead.
Firstly, a healthy Webster was sitting right under Bonamego’s nose while he just kept trotting Kupp out there as PR. Beyond incompetent.
Secondly, shouldn’t the ST Coordinator be factoring in the necessity of getting hang time on kickoffs when choosing his PK candidates?
Thirdly, I know it’s hindsight, but Bonamego is 0 for 2 on selecting quality PK’s.
Fourthly, I believe Bonamego should be held responsible for the results on his various units rather than Snead or McVay. Bonamego IS the ST Coordinator, after all. Those coverage teams are a result of his developmental skills, for better or worse. Don’t need to be Top 3, just need average, but we’re getting bottom of the barrel.
Your point about Snead trading away draft picks might have some merit, I suppose. But then again, it is nice to have a few top drawer players at key positions on this roster. Hard for me to criticize the way Snead/McVay have built this overall roster, tbh.
Cheers, my friend. Hope all is well.
