I think at a high level, losing Gurley and cooks and having so much dead cap, plus losing Littleton and fowler, coupled with a poor O'line last year and being in the NFC west made it easy for most to overlook the Rams.
But what we all knew as fans was that losing Cooks and Gurley wouldn't hurt us, aside from dead money. We already had been covering for their weaknesses, and our O'line started to gel towards the end of the year. Plus we kept our core on offense: woods, kupp, higby and Goff under the 3rd year in the same system with McVay, so i don't think any of us thought our offense would fall off much.
Which still left holes at linebacker and overall depth and no money.
We still have a depth issue, but will say we appear to have got lucky with Fuller at safety and Kiser looked promising after a bad first game. D coach staley so far gets an A.
Maybe we have something...
