All I’ll say here is that I firmly believe that Goff is individually better in his 5th year than he’s been in previous years, not just last year.
It’s perfectly normal to expect a 25 year old 5th year QB to get better. To be more mature. To take more ownership. To be more comfortable. To be more in control. It’s been reported that his teammates see a difference in him.
Goff is better ON HIS OWN, irrespective of anything else including the OL.
I agree with a lot of that.
But if his OL were like the first half of last year he would still struggle more under those conditions. Why? Because virtually every qb would.
Unless you can give me a long list of those who wouldn't.
Look at Wentz last Sunday. Excluding his rookie year, and counting game 1 in 2020, he has had 4 games over 4 seasons with a qb rating as low or lower. But game 1, with an iffy OL, the Eagles went against a tough Washington DL, and he struggled.
Wentz is in his 5th year too.
...
PFF grades for game 1.
Whitworth = 95.2 overall grade, highest for any LOT
Blythe = 81.9 =, 3rd for OCs
Corbett = 80.3, 6th for OGs
These things are not mutually exclusive.
Goff can show good progress in 2020 AND have regressed in 2019.
The OL can have played poorly in 2019 AND have improved in 2020 so far.
