I think the Rams hit big on Edwards. In review of the film he was a bit up and down but he's just really good in both blocking phases. I'm even willing to subscribe that Evans will arrive at some point this year, in spite of some ugly film and knowing he's going to need some time.
But after that we have so many IFs on this line. So many. And being a fan has taught me that you tend to not get everything breaking your way. It happens like in '99. But usually not. Whit is gonna be 39 and behind him is unknown. Corbett is a patsy in the run game. Blythe is bad all around with the exception of line calls and comms. Hav has always been a guy who wins ugly in pass pro (i.e. quite average) and his strength was the run but if he doesn't get back to the guy we saw before we could be bad on both edges.
I'd say best we can hope for is a decent line, but the worst is quite ugly. So here's hoping Kromer is right.
I’m far more optimistic than you, Merlin, it seems.
Whit should be okay early on and I like Boom as a LOT. And Boom should be healthy by game 4, I think. Maybe sooner.
Corbett looked better on my TV than on yours, apparently. Plus, we have a handful of possible LG’s if Corbett struggles.
Blythe was playing hurt at C last year. He’s had 2 surgeries to get his shoulder and ankle fixed and should be fine at C this year. Here again, about 4-5 C candidates waiting in the wings in case Blythe struggles there.
Agree on Edwards. He looks like a quality RG or LG to me. Maybe even a possible future OT, who knows?
Hav was not healthy last year, but he should be this year. A healthy Hav is more than adequate for this McVay O.
Evans could be a starter at RT, RG, or LG, I think. Pretty handy guy to have around.
In addition to the above 7 we have at least 6 more candidates waiting in the wings for depth. In fact, I predict that 1-2 of our final OL cuts will be snapped up before they can make the practice squad.
I still have faith that Kromer knows what he’s doing and has a plan. It appears that the Rams do, too, since they spent their draft picks elsewhere until Anchrum in the 7th plus spent their FA cap dollars on non-OL positions. All the tangible evidence is telling us that the Rams like their current OL options. Sooooo...
