Of course speed matters...... but not to the degree that the media and a lot of fans think so.
The greatest WR's are usually not speed merchants. Jerry Rice, Larry Fitzgerald, Holt, Bruce...... Rather, they are fast enough, intelligent, excellent route runners, stay healthy, have good hands and a high football IQ.
Over and over we see guys drafted early that have great speed and they rarely turn into much. Some do. But often they are guys like Polk; drafted late, developed, and then used correctly. Tyreek Hill is such an example.
But, we'll see. In college, and at a smaller school, no doubt he had a huge advantage. Will it translate in any way to the pros where everybody is fast? Stay tuned.
