I agree. I don't see why people would be disappointed in Gaines. He was a mid-round pick, a two-down run defender. Contributed as a rookie and- no different from Rapp, Long, Edwards, Evans, etc.- there is every reason to be optimistic he'll take a step forward in year 2. Joseph-Day didn't play a down his rookie year and was pretty good in year 2.
It doesn't change who he is. He's not going to give them 6 sacks or anything. But as a rotational interior DT I think Gaines is a nice guy to have.
