Re: Not necessarily

IMO, comparing a "gimmicky yellow line" with the neutering of the ICONIC helmet horn is a reach. I don't think as many fans would complain about the line being gone as you think and IMO it certainly isn't as impactful as the first helmet logo was.

I know Demoff is a smart guy. Even smart guys make mistakes.

I guess we just disagree on this, and that's ok! peace smiley

I dont know why you consider it a reach. To me its a clear example of how something that was considered "gimmicky" initially is now considered vital. IMO if they got rid of the yellow line you'd hear alot of fans complain. In any event its just an example there are many examples in a similar vein.

In terms of impact I simply don't think you know yet. As I've said many times the uniforms are not designed for the majority of posters and newspaper readers (ie your older fan base). Its for a younger generation. Further given that premise I dont think demoff expected overwhelming expected. He's not dumb. When you institute change traditionalist many of which are older are not going to like it. He had to know that.

Despite the resolute proclamations nobody knows what the fate of these uniforms will. I certainly acknowledge that they could be replaced if they don't have tge desired impact. But my point is that most "new" things are considered gimmicky until there not and after a while they become traditional. Do you remember watching football without the yellow first down line. Wasn't that a gimmick by fox? Now all broadcasts incorporate it.

Sorry, PHD. I think you are really reaching for a comparison with the yellow line stuff. lol Nobody cares about a yellow line the way they do about a uni. For every gimmick you name that succeeded, we can name one that didn't.

You say: "most "new" things are considered gimmicky until there not and after a while they become traditional."...OR the gimmick is discarded. Saying "most" new things become "traditional" is stretching it a bit. I don't know what the percentage a new gimmicks becoming "traditional" is but I doubt it is "most" as you say.

As for the "desired impact"...the new uni has absolutely had an "impact". I am just not sure it was the "desired" one they wanted. IMO, @#$%& expected these uni's to be overwhelmingly accepted. If about a 50-50 split, and alienating a good portion of your oldest and most loyal fan base, is what they "desired", then I guess they did well.

#HelmetHornsMatter

“Well, the color is good, I like the metallic blue,” Youngblood recently said while laughing, via NFL Journal. “The horn is terrible. It looks like a ‘C.’ When I first saw it on the logo I honestly thought it was a Charger logo.

“Now when I see it on the helmet, it just isn’t a ram horn. There is no distinct curl like a mature ram horn. I don’t know how the Rams could get that wrong. That is your symbol and it has been for what? Seventy years or more? Longer than I have been alive? It’s just not us, it’s not the Rams.”---Mr. Ram Jack Youngblood
