I'm not ignorant about the strategy, types of defenses... it takes to do this but I son't try in this reply to be specific.
When we're playing a good D one thing that is just GLARINGLY different between our D and theirs... (with, admittedly, a few exceptions)... is how they, the opponent D, SWARMS to the ball.. and almost instantly... and most of the time, (not always), our D looks caught in a one on one which if we lose that match-up results in yet another one an one and so forth... no swarming, IOW's. Whereas our O player, whomever is getting the ball, seems to almost instantly be having to take on half the D all within a couple steps of the tackle.
Ok, so I exaggerate a bit... doesn't matter... that's basically what happens ALL TOO OFTEN. Like to see that fixed. - JamesJM
