There are certain things the Rams seem to believe in such as taking WR that are great route runners or defensive players that are multi-positional or having a plan for how a certain player is going to fit into the team. They love players that have proven themselves in the Senior Bowl and guys that love playing football and that have been team captains. They are very specific in the attributes that they look for.
On the offensive line they tend not to use high picks, especially after the GROB disaster. The Rams OL is loaded with young players that need to be developed and are in the 2nd and 3rd year of development. Do we really thing a 2nd round OL was going to come in an start this year? Snead/McVay must have looked at the OL and determined they could coach up this young group and that it was not a need. If McVay thought it was a need Snead would have gotten him a OL.
The Gurley/Cook contracts were disasters but they had to bite the bullet and are screwed on the cap this year and to some extent next year.
My question is will the defense be better: I think yes it is possible with the new DC, the additions of Robinson and Floyd, the maturing of players and Lewis and Burgess.
Will the offense be better: I think yes to that too. Gurley was shot last year and will be replaced by Henderson and Akers and they will probably be better than Gurley was last year. Cooks was hurt and the we will use more 12 personnel sets with our deep TE group and we added a WR who comes ready to play. Plus we added an OC which should help things. Also our OL is much more experienced and has another year in the weight room.
I think we will be a better team next year than the year before. This is a good point to argue BTW. If we are better than last year the off season was a success IMO and not a bottom 5. If we suck next year then Barnwell was right. Simple as that.
