Considering where the Rams picked I am very pleased with where we ended up. I also think there is going to be a challenge league wide in developing rookies.
Akers: Rams were targeting him and they got their man. They liked him over Dobbins. His running style is different then Henderson which is positive. I like the pick because he is an eventual starter and if Henderson doesn't make it we have another shot with Akers. Brown is a backup and is not a long term solution.
Jefferson: Gosh the more I ready about Jefferson the more I like him. Good size, very polished route runner, gets open and apparently is much faster than given credit for since he was the fastest guy at the Senior Bowl. Hurt by terrible QB play at Florida. Reynolds and Kupp are in the last year of their contracts and we certainly needed to draft someone that can eventually start. Very high floor
Lewis: It is all about the injury bug with him. If he was healthy in college where would he have been picked? Mid First Round? It seems like a reasonable risk and he should be ready to rush the passer this year in passing situations. Again we needed another pass rusher and potentially got a good one here.
Burgess: Can play the slot and play safety so he adds some good depth. We need depth in both those roles and as a senior he has the experience to be ready quicker than most coming out this year.
I like this draft because I think these are players that the Rams were hoping to draft, they have high floors except Lewis and there seems to be significant upside.
How quickly they play is up for debate but these guys seem to be experienced as you could hope for. The comments about Akers needing to learn pass blocking can be applied to every top running back in the draft. Jefferson will probably be ready quickly but will start our behind Reynolds, Lewis should be ready as a situational pass rusher right away. Jeremiah said Burgess is ready to be a starting Slot right away.
I like the upside and if while they may not start right away I think they will be able to step in those in front of them are not performing or get injured. I don't know how you could hope for more than we got last night.
