To me their 2019 special teams decline was mainly about making more mistakes vs. not making enough big plays. For example while the Rams blocked 5 punts over 2017 and 2018 their problem wasn't really that they didn't keep that going but they had one blocked
themselves.
And while Hekker had the same net punting average as 2018 he had much higher percentage of punts go through the endzone and fewer kicks downed inside the 20. Little things that add up.
And of course Zuerlein had his worst season (5/11 from 40-49 yards).
Bonamego's criticism from the little I've read seems to be they had too many penalties (19). Rams had the same number in 2019- and they had 26 ST penalties in 2018.
Hit 3 or 4 more FGs next year, down 3 or 4 more punts inside the 20, have 4 or 5 fewer penatlies... It all adds up...
