No. I would have waited until after this year. No need to rush the contract IMO. But here's the thing. I believe he is an above average QB. A QB you can win a Super Bowl with. How do you pay an above average QB? Is there any easy way without dipping ones feet into the top QB money? It does seem to be slotted as others have posted. When has there been a young, above average Super Bowl QB get money just under the elite QBs? I'm not saying it hasn't happened. I'm just saying it's not common.
I definitely don't want to go down the road of having below average QB's again. We've had enough of that during the 1990's-2000's. We would all love to have an elite QB but that requires a little luck and good timing. So if you can't obtain the elite QB, then what? You have to get that next tier guy. To me that's Jared Goff. A QB that has good skills and we can win with but we have to reduce his deficiencies. And on top of that...you probably have to overpay for that tier of QB.
