So, a player can be declared down by going to the ground, doesn't have to be a kneel or slide, without being touched by a defender. Would the ref had blown the whistle in time? I don't know, but if I had to guess, I'd say probably. All the Saints receivers were in that 10 yard area and 5 of the 6 Texan defenders were there too. Brees threw to the one guy whose defender was about 7 yards more downfield, so it was an easy completion.
