We hold what we most recently have observed to be the truth as opposed to what we once held to be the truth. I.e. "my present girlfriend is so much prettier than my last one".

You guys are completely missing the point....it has nothing to do with trying to compare Goff to Warner in totality ....its about comparing where they are/were at age 24 in there football lives.

to use your analogy, all we can hope is that our new girlfriend ends up being way hotter than our old one at this point......and that the relationship last much longer.

And another thing.

Warner wasn't WARNER at 24. Brady wasn't BRADY at 24. We can agree on these things.

But it's not just that. In retrospect we can go back and say that the "seeds" of WARNER and BRADY were visible when they were 24. But. in real time, the seeds of THAT kind of greatness obviously were visible to almost anyone, including the vast majority of people paid handsomely for finding future NFL superstars.

And will Goff be as good as WARNER some day? Probably not? But I - and most of us - can say that with some confidence simply because, 1) he's obviously not as good yet; 2) very few QBs developed into a WARNER. That's it. It's not about all the things he can't do, doesn't do, will "never" do... Given that most of us would agree that Goff at 24 is better than Warner was at 24, seems awfully odd to point to Goff's weaknesses and insist on THAT basis that Goff could never be as good as WARNER.

I think he's very good now, mediocre performances like yesterday's notwithstanding, and very much look forward to seeing him develop into a player a few insist he can never become.
