A stud OL, usually drafted in the first round will look good in one on one battles.
We have a bunch of development guys drafted in the 3rd round or later. They all have holes in their games. We aren’t talking about Pace or Hutchinson here.
And Kromer has a long history of doing very well with developmental guys. That's because he sees the diamonds in the rough which us fans can't. So what he sees is not what you see. That's no guarantee but still, there's real history behind that.
He had very good OLs in New Orleans which never had anyone picked higher than round 2 (and actually it's usually just 1 of those picked THAT high). Like his superbowl OL from 2009:
LT Bushrod, 4th round
LG Nicks, 5th round
C Goodwin, 5th round
RG the great Jahri Evans, 4th round
RT, Stinchcomb, 2nd round
