in their last game?
Here's the formula near as I can tell. Young. Looks bad rookie year. Doesn't just lose the final games in 2017 and 2018, he also does not play well in those games.
Not many qbs have that profile. Young, poor rookie season, play suffers in final games both years the team is good.
Compare that to Wilson from 2012-14 for example. Did well as a rookie, played well in a superbowl win, did well in a superbowl loss.
Now imagine if we got some skeptical national analyst in here, whose job means they cover 32 teams and so he does not know any one of them as well as we know the Rams. And we said, but Wilson had advantages. He was in a college pro system and went to a virtually finished rebuilt team. Goff in contrast had to be re-tooled for the pro game and went to a shakey team that had just moved. Then the new coach takes advantage of all the talent he inherits (plus adds to it) and they start winning, Yes they lose at the end both times, and Goff does not play well in those games, but does that really overshadow his great games before that.
Do we convert this guy?
Odds are he tolerates us while seeing us as homer fans.
Is he right? No. Of course not. But we probably won't convince him until Goff is more consistently good, win or lose, in the post-season. (And I speak as someone who has not waivered on Goff, not even in 2016.)
Do I think that Goff does eventually convince him? Yes of course. But can I convince Skeptical Analyst of that NOW? No probably not now. He tolerates me for a bit and then afterward goes back to watching Mahomes and Mayfield.
