Oct. 6, 2008 at the Rams-Skins game. Rams were 0-4, Skins were 4-1 and all I heard as we walked to the suite where my company at the time had season tickets was "Rams Suck! Rams Suck!" I smiled and nodded politely and my wife at the time just ignored it all.
Up 16-7 going into the 4th quarter, a few Skins fans started getting antsy about it all, growling and swearing, looking at me like I just kicked their dog. I remained stoic, kept a straight face and just shrugged. After they scored to make it 16-10, those fans started screaming about how the tide had turned and then Portis rammed in a TD late to give them the lead. I started hearing about how the Rams had played a good game, too bad, better luck next time and the better team had won. When Josh Brown hit a 49 yd FG as time expired, I watched every face in the stadium fall and just turned to my wife and said "Let's go."
I kept my head down as we walked out, did not hear a single word from anyone. Yet as we drove away (she was driving since I had been drinking) I asked her to slow down as we went under a walkway full of Skins fans headed to their cars. I leaned out the window and yelled "Redskins SUCK!" then told her to go fast.
As you may recall, Rams beat the Cowboys the following week and lost the rest of their games that year, ending 2-14. But for a brief moment in history, I felt a little pride and vengeance over those arrogant jerks.
