Demby is big, strong, and smart. Not an elite athlete, so explains why he fell to 6th round.
I think he has a good shot at starting, and if he does well, Brown may not get his spot back.
I see it differently.
Missing 2 games for a veteran starter is no big deal really. Brown steps back in, the line is the same, and they build off of continuity.
Demby has a long way to go to become starting quality, and that's no matter how good he is...but a rookie is a rookie. And I like Demby. Seems like a good pick.
Yeah, we see this one differently.
Rookie Guards get plugged in at a higher rate than most other positions. Demby is gonna have to play significant minutes with the starters in preseason. Then 2 regular season games. If he grades out really well, I can see Kromer sticking with him for a few more games, and making a determination later.
It’s not as if Brown is a high quality starter. I still see him totally brain farting on that missed block that caused the hit on Goff resulting in a fumble and DTD.
I prefer very smart OL.
I wonder how many teams starting rookie guards are (1) starting higher picks than 6th rounders, like 1st rounders who are better prepared, and (2) have no choice.
I see Demby as having a future because I believe Kromer knows guards. But I also see at least 3 guys ahead of him, meaning in his rookie year. Brown, who just isn't as bad as some are saying; Blythe, who has already subbed before and can cover 2 games; and Neary, who has a year in the system.
Demby would have to be quite a surprise to get a jump on that, I think. And I like him as a pick. So anyway that's my reasoning. Kromer puts a lot on his guards. I want to see how Demby looks next year when he has had some seasoning and coaching.
I think a lot of people are hoping to see Brown permanently replaced, but, PFF saw him improving during the season. This is from mid-November:

PFF LA Rams@PFF_Rams
After allowing the most pressures throught the first five weeks and having the lowest pass blocking efficiency, Brown now leads all guards with only one pressure and the highest PBE
Highest pass blocking efficiency among guards over the last five weeks (min. 100 pass blocking plays):
1. Jamon Brown (LA) - 99.4
t-2. James Hurst (BAL) - 98.7
t-2. David DeCastro (PIT) - 98.7
4. Joe Thuney (NE) - 98.6
5. John Jerry (NYG) - 98.4
More on that:

After the first five weeks of the season, there were some doubting Brown’s ability to play right guard for the Rams. While he was doing well as a run blocker, he struggled mightily in pass protection.
According to Pro Football Focus, no guard allowed more pressures than Brown in the first five games. Since then, he’s turned into one of the best guards in the NFL over the course of the past five weeks.
