Tavon at 4 yrs $40m coming off his best season with 10TD's wasn't an overpay that people make it out to be considering what WR's are getting paid these days... He just disappeared the following season(along with everyone else in Fisher's last year) so it looked bad in hindsight. I still think that was Fisher who was behind that deal anyway.
Signing someone like Donald isn't as easy as some think it should be considering how good he is, but also considering the leverage the Rams have... Rams just can't cave into his demands considering the cards they hold and other players we would like to keep around.
You have to understand the markets and also what his coaches and GM are telling him as far as who to get done and who they must have. This isn't KD just doing what ever he wants.
Also, the Rams are going to be one of the top teams the next couple of years as far as cap space and considering how many young stars we have coming up, I'd say he has done pretty well with timing.
I agree with you about the TA contract. 10 M a year for a guy listed as a WR is just not exorbitant. It wasn't exorbitant in 2015, either. WRs now, for 2nd contracts, are getting around 16 M. BUT at the same time, Tavon wasn't a McVay guy, apparently, and so McV wasn't interested in using him the way he was used in 2015. You can't blame McV for that and you can't blame Tavon for that.
In terms of organization, yes, it's not McV/Snead dictating to Demoff and it's not Demoff imposing players on the coach/GM.
I also agree with you that they are set up well capwise for the future and that the overall picture is good.
Still, I will feel even better once Donald and Cooks are signed.
