One difference between last year and this year: if Donald doesn't show up at least 30 days before the Rams first regular season game he won't be an unrestricted free agent in 2019.
A player needs 4 accrued years before they can become an unrestricted free agent. Right now Donald has 3 accrued years because he reported so late last year.
If I did my calendar math right Donald needs to report by August 11 to earn his 4th accrued year this season. And that seems like it would be early enough for him to get ready for Oakland on Sept 10 (based on how long it took him to get up to speed last year, which to be honest seemed to take about a week.)
