If the DL is healthy next week, then the secondary can survive.
The big issue isn't the secondary alone, it's lack of pressure. Pressure is the foundation of the Rams D and with the DL banged up, they aren't pressuring the QB. It's pretty simple.
Against Gaines?
Great pressure and Stafford still makes the connection when the db loses technique.
It takes more than the d-line playing well. They need to play well as a unit!!
That means all levels of the D.
I agree with your last three sentences wholeheartedly.
My point was that the DL is the foundation of the D and is designed to cover up a lot mistakes from the other levels. For instance, you point out that Barron is small. Yes, he is but they are banking on the fact that the DL will dominate and stop most runs at that level.
When the DL is weak, it exposes weaknesses at the other levels. I don't believe that the secondary is strong enough to play well all game when the QB has all day to throw.
None of this is an excuse for the DB to lose technique though. I'm just being realistic by acknowledging that the DBs are not as talented as the DL personnel and the D wasn't designed for them to be able to maintain very long.
GW's formula is simple: No Pressure? No good D. (and even when there is pressure, that doesn't guarantee anything as you astutely point out.)
