I keep watching Johnny Hekker trotting out onto the field
I think that for 2016 ... maybe we are boiled frogs in reverse ... right now there is ZERO excitement with this team ... and for now that is what us fans are lacking.
the Rams are a LACKLUSTER team right now ... but a good lackluster team ... yes put a spit-shine on some of our players and then this team will a good team with luster. Big plays by Austin and Gurley and Goff will add luster to this team .... if we were 3-2 with some ilLUSTRIOUS and exciting offensive plays, then we would all be hopeful and excited to watch the wins accumulate.
the LUSTER of Auston and Gurley and Goff will happen ....but....
if we watch the lemon-aid come out of the lemons we now have ... then THERE IS a semblance of excitement and some subtle luster to enjoy ... but we have to look for it.
Take Johnny Hekker for example ... he is an elite punter ... a very important part of this team ... many fans don't appreciate how much excitement a punter can add to a season.
Think about ... how long did it take for Ray Guy to get into the HOF? Nearly 30 years ... yes he was UNDER appreciated. I grew up watching him ...
when the offense struggled, I couldn't wait for Guy to come on the field to move the ball downfield because the opposing team's offense and punters couldn't make up the difference in net yardage ... after each team traded 3-and-outs a few times ... the Raiders would end up getting the ball at the opposing team's 35 yardline ... giving very short fields for them ... after Ray Guy did this for years, I watched the elite Shane Lechler do it for years ... now I get to watch the elite Marquette King do the same.
Johnny Hekker is every bit as elite as Guy, Lechler, and King is ... I love watching how he contributes to the team.
Hekker is more a part of the Rams offense than he is special teams.... he is the lemon-aid of the sputtering offense.
And what about the Rams defense ... sporting the BEST PLAYER in the NFL ... Aaron Donald. Just watching him every down is exciting.
Thus far in 2016, the Rams have won more than they have lost ... some of the elite players are performing with luster ... this team will get better. The stop-gap QB will soon move aside ... the O-Line will start to open up gaping holes for Gurley, and Austin will begin to perform his magic ... Goff will be soon throwing 1st downs and touchdowns ...(and in a few years the stop-gap head-coach will be moved aside) ...
Kurt Warner, Issac Bruce and Marshall Faulk of the offense no longer gives us the opium we were addicted to ...
but if we turn our attention to Hekker and Donald, and appreciate what a difference they make on this team .. they can give us the opium of the Rams faithful ... and who cares about the opium of the masses.
eh?
enjoy Hekker and Donald while you can ... players like these two don't come along very often.
I want this guy wearing Horns: Jordan Westercamp
the video doesn't show how good his hands really are. I think he can be the next Danny Amendola.... with Chris Carter's hands... and then some.
