I've cut back on my posting lately because nobody wants to be around a Mr Gloom and Doom. Including me.

But I wanna get this off my chest in the hopes I might feel better.

So here goes...

Mr Mediocre remains as our HC and that will continue for the rest of the '16 season.

Yeah, this is a bummer. I still think he may end up with an extension which is more of a bummer.

Keenum has managed 3 wins, each by 3 and 4 point margins when accompanied by terrific D and ST play. Otherwise, he's 0-2. This condition is not likely to improve.

Keenum won’t improve but the condition may because I suspect Goff time is soon. His job is to limit turnovers. If he throws one more pick 6 or his mistakes are a direct reason for a loss in any of the next couple of games, I think Fisher will make the change.

Our #1 overall QB has yet to take an NFL snap. This is despite the success enjoyed by several other rookie QB's around the league AND Keenum's underwhelming performance so far. Let that soak in for a minute. We gave up 6 premium picks for Goff over 2 drafts and have yet to get a single snap as a return on investment through 5 games. Gulp...

Aren’t you the one who is usually preaching about premium players having 10 to 15 year careers with the Rams? Why the dismay over 5 games in what should be a 10+ year career? Investments that large aren’t made based on short term thinking.

What does that say about Fisher's judgement in picking his QB? Or about his staff's ability to develop his QB? Either way, it's kinda scary.

It may not say anything about either of those things. The plan ALL ALONG was to have Keenum start as placeholder and bring Goff along slowly. They never intended to rush him. If they wanted to rush a new QB in, they would have drafted Wentz. That has already been reported. Ideally, Goff would have been a quick enough study for them to change that plan. There was that hope since of course the ideal is always the goal. But given Fisher and Snead’s language throughout this entire process, it’s clear to me that they expected it to take some time.

IMO, it’s not scary when something is going more or less along the lines of what you expected. What would be scary to me is if he couldn’t start opening day next year. I would be disappointed if he didn’t start at some point this year but I personally still wouldn’t call that scary.

Since they expected it to take some time, his not playing right now says nothing about Fisher’s judgment in picking him or the staff’s ability to develop him. It may say something about Fisher’s wisdom of choosing the less ready QB and Keenum-as-placeholder path. The coach may be stupid to have that plan but it doesn’t mean that the player is getting bad coaching or that they picked a bad QB.

Don't know about you, but I sure expected bigger things from our OL this year. It's not as if they've been devastated with injuries, either. So, what gives?

Yeah, the OL is disappointing. I expected a significant jump in performance. I’m starting to wonder if it’s the stupid plan to go to a more zone blocking scheme. Notice that GRob used to be good at run blocking but now he’s not.

Can we please utilize our TE's in this O a bit more? Kendricks can be a weapon, especially against stacked boxes. Is Higbee in witness protection? Boggles my mind how slowly he's developing. From "mini Gronk" in preseason to MIA once the season starts? C'mon...

Higbee is 4th round rookie. Why would the fact that he’s not producing much yet boggle your mind? Slow development is common for TEs. It’s been posted so many times on this board the stats and how long it took for HOF caliber TEs to start being productive. The surprising thing would be if he WAS doing great things right now.

Britt and Quick (to my great surprise, btw) have impressed, but is anybody happy with our $42 million Tavon as an O weapon? I'm not. Saw it coming, too. Fisher continues to try to force a square peg into a round hole with Tavon. Results speak for themselves, at least so far.

I’m somewhat happy with our $42 million man. Actually, I should say I'm not exactly unhappy with him. I blame any lack of production on the QB situation and Fisher and his staff’s offensive ineptitude. First, Keenum and Tavon have awful chemistry. It seems that most of Keenum’s blatant errant throws are when he’s targeting Austin. And I’m not talking about route mix-ups. I’m talking about the type of misses in the Arizona game where balls were thrown at his feet with no defender close.

Secondly, Fisher and his staff still don’t know how to use him properly. They need to double or triple the number of regular routes they send him on and abandon the throws that are behind the line of scrimmage. I’ve observed that good things typically happen when they target him in the intermediate to deep routes.

Is there any other team in the league that would continue to struggle facing 8-9 man boxes? Take what the D gives you, dammit! A steady dose of quick passes until either we're up by 21 points OR their D compensates. Geez...

Agreed.

No complaints with our D. Just frustration with the injuries to key starters.

I have complaints with the D. TD percentage in the RZ and 3rd Down Conversion percentage are big problems. Last year they were much much better in both of those categories. They can’t be a good D being ranked in the mid 20’s in those categories.

Here's the thing that's really got me kinda down...

I'm afraid that nothing's gonna significantly improve this year. Offensive ineptitude seems to be baked into Fisher's DNA. Which means another year with some good to great talent will have been wasted.

Agreed. I hope you’re wrong too but doubt it.
