How can WR's look good when your O is 32nd passing the ball and 32nd in TD passes? Nobody fears the ball getting thrown over their head when playing the Rams right now.
Do the WR's hold some responsibility? Sure they do...but the QB play and the Oline play do as well. Add in Coaching and scheme and the Rams just need to get better.
The Rams have simply been awful passing the ball, get a QB who can make plays and watch them make those around them better players.
Teams with good to great QBs usually win and look good, teams lacking good QBs struggle to win and to pass the ball.
You cant play if you have Clemens, Hill and Foles and Keenum leading the charge for you. You can compete and be average because of other talent on the team but the team will hardly ever compete for the playoffs and winning playoff games and or Superbowls.
I agree with the effects and not the causes. When Foles fell apart he took a lot down with him. It had nothing to do with scheme and playcalling...they didn't even get to that point. Poor execution from qb negated everything.
We know that Foles played okay in his first 4 games and Keenum did in the last 4. What would the offense be if we had those 8 games combined? It's just a thought experiment.
Foles+Keenum, games 1-4+14-17.
For this imaginary animal, whom we can name "Rams Competent Quarterback," we get this--->
63.8% completions (would have been ranked 13th in the league in 16 games)
7.2 YPA (would have been ranked 9th)
3.8% TD percentage (would have been ranked 24th)
0.5% TD percentage (would have been ranked 1st)
96.3 avg. qb rating (would have been ranked 8th)
20.6 points per game (would have been ranked 24th, which is not great but it's not last)
5-3 W/L (which in 16 games would have been 10/6)
All this thought experiments shows is that if they had just DECENT quarterbacking, they would have done fairly well.
That suggests it had nothing to do with the scheme. AND it suggests that season averages are brought down by Foles's bout of really, really bad games. In that respect just looking at season averages hides things.
