A Whitner signing likely will have more to do with

the status of TJ Mac that anything else

Whitner is not a true FS. He's more an in the box type or a hybrid SS/FS.
So to me, the determining factor as to whether the Rams pursue him might be TJ MacDonald's playing status (which, btw, is steeped in mystery right now).

Of course, if training camp shows that Alexander can be an effective SS, and one the young guys an effective FS, then perhaps the Rams won't have to look in Whitner's direction.
