As if the game will be played in front of the emperor's family in some far off 'village'. To be clear - I don't like losing the game and I don't care about our 'brand' in the UK or China and wish we weren't part of this but, from a purely business standpoint China = Growth. The American fan base has 'matured' as they say. You're not going to make the game much bigger in the states than it is now. You have a younger (millennial) generation that doesn't watch a lot of broadcast tv and doesn't like to spend a lot of money on stuff (or they don't have much to spend). Ever wonder why every other commercial during football are for Viagra or Cialis? Think those are aimed at a young audience? They know who's watching.
It's the same reason the movie studios are doubling down on big event super hero movies that play well in places like China. Movie attendance in the US has been flat or declining for years. It's growing rapidly overseas, especially in China.
