I don't see how you can sell 'potential' to an owner and draft guys who need a year or 2, or 3 to hit their stride / grow up / learn the game. By the time your plan comes together and the player is productive it's time for contract #2 and big money. it's possible that Robinson will round into form and possibly become the player they always dreamed of - just as his rookie contract is expiring. Wouldn't that be a hoot? So we can overpay based on 1 year of good production or let him walk and, in effect, become the minor league team for another ball club.
