You don't trade the farm for a QB, take him 1st overall and sit him down behind a journeyman QB unless your coach is safe in their job. Fisher is on the hot seat and they need to show immediate returns. We don't have a Favre or Warner at QB to give Goff the luxury of carrying a clipboard for a year. Unless his performance in the preseason shows that he simply is not ready yet, he will be the starter. The pressure is on the coaches and him to be "the man" and they all know it.
Keenum is a "placeholder" QB, Ramboni. No more, but no less.
As such, he's a pretty danged good one, though. We can win with Keenum.
I could see where Fisher might consider that Keenum might give him the best chance to win come opening day. And maybe for a few games beyond.
This would enable Goff to get more polished and more synchronized with the entire O. Goff is our future QB, no question. But that doesn't mean he has to start on opening day or he's a bust. Fisher has options at QB now, to his credit.
Don't know about you, but I don't give a rip which QB starts. Give me the one that gives us the best chance of winning THAT day.
It's all about winning in '16 for me.
